Why do you CrossFit?

Originally, I thought why not? I’ll try anything once. I was 28 and decided that I wasn’t going to get soft and wimpy like most people do approaching their 30s. Now, I CrossFit because I love the atmosphere, the people, and I hate how I feel when I don’t CrossFit!

What makes you a great coach?

Passion. I want to see people meet their goals. I genuinely do!! The certs I have, the knowledge I’ve acquired, the hours I’ve spent, are all in the name of other people being better versions of themselves! Take everything I know about movement and fitness and Id still do my best to better people. It’s just who I am.

What’s your favorite coaching moment?

CF Regionals 2012. We were on the bubble of making it to the CF Games. The first half of the workout things weren’t looking good!! (Which was one of my least favorite moments). Once the girls were turned loose (Maddy and my wife, Jen) the went to work!! They laid it all out there, 110%. All in hope to catch up and earn their team a spot at the games!! And they did just that!!! It was a great moment for me as a proud husband and coach!

Why did you become a coach?

It seemed like the natural progression for me. I couldn’t help it! I found myself looking up videos and articles to help others more than myself. I truthfully felt like people needed me! And I still love that feeling years later.

Why do you CrossFit?

I CrossFit because I love pushing past my perceived limits. I love the challenge and the feeling of accomplishing something I couldn’t do yesterday. Most of all, the community is second to none! It’s my health, my friends, my life.

What motivates you as a coach?

Nothing motivates me more than to see someone’s face after they do something they never dreamed they would be able to do. A first pull up, muscle up, or setting a new PR on a lift, there is just no better feeling!

Why did you become a coach?

When I started CrossFit I was out of shape and clueless as to how I was going to change
myself. The support and knowledge my coaches gave to me was amazing. I now find myself in a position to be that coach to someone else. I’ve always had a passion for seeing others succeed and this is my chance to use what I have learned to better someone else’s life!

What keeps your coaching passion fueled?

The number one reason I love coaching is seeing people’s lives change day in and day out. To witness and be a part of someone’s journey to a healthier and more fit lifestyle is one of the most satisfying feelings I’ve ever experienced! That is my fuel!

What is your favorite CrossFit movement?

This may sound down right insane, but if there is one movement I pray is in every workout, it would be burpees! I am a wrestler and used to up and down level changes, so I excel in workouts that include burpees.

Favorite cheat meal?

Hands down, Whitey’s Ice Cream! It is my weakness, and I am not ashamed to admit it!

Favorite hobby outside the gym?

I am all about being outdoors and in the woods, so trail running or hiking is number one! Favorite non sport related hobby would be playing guitar!

Coach

Why do you CrossFit?

The ability to warm-up, kick your own ass in a work-out, and cool-down within an hour is initially what drew me to CF. However, the ability to stay in shape with quick wod’s, and the people of the gym are what keep me coming back day after day.

What motivates you as a coach?

Watching and motivating folks to accomplish physically and mentally challenging tasks.

Why did you become a coach?

To better understand the techniques of CF movements, and communicate this info others>

What is your favorite thing to coach?

Soccer…… Just kidding, coming from a running background I love to coach running wod’s. The experience allows me to understand the specific mental and physical limits athletes are struggling with while running, and relay supportive communications, such as “You’ll pass out before you die, so keep pushing!”

Favorite CrossFit movement?

Overhead Squats… It’s amazing how many muscles are engaged while holding heavy weight above your head and trying to do proper squats.

Favorite CrossFit workout?

Helen… She’s my girl! Run? Yes! Pullups? Sure! KB Swings? Okay! 3 rounds, no rest, just the right amount of distance/reps to keep red-lining the whole wod☺

Favorite hobby outside of the gym?

Trail running.. It’s really peaceful out there by yourself running through the woods…

Why do you CrossFit?

I CrossFit because it has been a great way to deal with every day stress, keep my body healthy, and build my confidence.

What makes you a great coach?

I feel that what makes me a great coach is my passion to help others to reach their fitness goals. I find myself caring, listening, and pushing clients to help them reach whatever goal they have.

Why motivates you as a coach?

The thing that most motivates me as a coach is when clients get their “firsts.” If it’s a first hand stand, first push up, or even the first time getting out of a chair: those moments make coaching worth the time and effort.

What is your favorite coaching moment?

My favorite moment as a coach is when clients get that “light bulb” moment when I’m coaching. The “light bulb” moment happens when clients are able to adjust their form to functionally move better.

Why did you become a coach?

I became a coach to make an impact on a person’s health but also make a difference in the way they live their life outside of food and exercise. For example, the confidence built during CrossFit workouts tends to transfer over into other areas of our lives whether it be in a professional or personal capacity.

What keeps tour coaching passion fueled?

My passion in coaching is fueled by the need for a change in life style in our society. My hope is that I can show people that the road, although challenging, will lead to longer life.

What’s your favorite thing to coach?

My favorite movement to coach in CrossFit is the Power Clean.

Favorite CrossFit workout?

“Grace”

Proudest moment as an athlete?

I recently had a Teen that I had been coaching leave to go to one of the branches of the Military. When she first started CrossFit she could hardly do any of the movements. On her last day being apart of my class, she got her first hand stand push up. This was a very proud moment because I remembered all her “firsts” that she had experienced and the joy in her face as she experienced those “firsts” times doing those movements.

Favorite hobby outside of the gym?

I love to play basketball!

Favorite cheat meal?

I don’t cheat! But if I was going to cheat it would have to be cheese cake from the Cheese Cake Factory!…lol

Favorite workout song?

Anything with a phat beat!

Why do you Crossfit?

I’ve never been an athlete per say and I definitely didn’t ever push myself hard inside a gym or ever touch a barbel. But after experiencing just one crossfit main site workout I realized this could be something that just might change my viewpoint on working out forever….yes, I was laid flat on my back and it was the most challenging thing I had ever done, but the next day I wanted more. The addiction and the love for Crossfit had begun for me and I wasn’t going to quit not then, not ever. Here I am 5 years later in my thirties, one trip to the Crossfit Games, two babies and in the BEST shape of my life!!

Why did you become a coach?

To help and give hope to all those who have ever doubted themselves. Who don’t think they ever could complete a Crossfit workout, let alone walk through our doors. I want people to know that this is a place of encouragement and like a second home to many. I became a coach because I want people to experience the same life changing journey I have had with Crossfit.

What keeps your coaching passion fueled?

Seeing a person do the unthinkable. Whether it would be jumping rope, climbing a rope, an unassisted pull-up, or even putting weight on a barbel for the very first time. Getting to see the excitement in a persons face after they have reached a goal they never thought possible, no longer makes my “job” a “job”, but a place you can’t keep me away from.

What is your favorite coaching moment?

When a large percentage of my class has completed their workout, but the clock is still running with a few people left to finish, and they all begin to cheer and encourage them till the very last rep has been done. Once you become a member of QCCF, you’re never in it alone, there is always going to be someone helping you fight to the end when you think you’ve got nothing left.

Favorite Crossfit movement?

Ring Muscle Up, because it was the most exciting moment when I finally got to the top of those rings!

Proudest moment as an athlete?

When I was standing on the podium at the North Central Regional with my sister, brother-in-law and three of my closest friends, and we had made it to the Crossfit Games for the first time ever!!

Favorite hobby outside of the gym?

Being a mother. I have two beautiful children, Bella and Braxton, who have stollen my heart and are my everything.

Why do you CrossFit?

I CrossFit because I want to see how good I can be not only as an athlete but as a human being. It’s a humbling sport that requires a ton of work ethic and sacrifice, which is what everyday life requires. Most importantly though, the community keeps me coming back everyday.

What motivates you as a coach?

Honestly seeing everyday people achieve things they never thought they could do. Whether it’s the mom who never thought she could do a real pull-up. Or the old collegiate athlete that lost their way and finally found something they can be passionate about again. Or the person who just needs someone to keep them accountable and to show them some love. The members are what motivates me.

What’s your favorite thing to coach?

My favorite thing to coach would have to be my kids or teens classes. Nothing against adults but I think I’m just a big kid at heart. It is so much fun to see kids moving so well at such a young age. Again though, CrossFit builds more than physically capacity it builds confidence in kids. It is crazy the change I see in kids becoming more comfortable in their own skin and pushing themselves even when they want to slow down. It’s building character in more than their sport!

Why did you become a coach?

I became a coach because I have a genuine love for people. I want to help people realize their potential and to believe in themselves. I also have been in sports my whole life and nothing has made me feel as strong or as fast or as confident as CrossFit has and I want the world to see how moving efficiently and having fun in the process can help change their lives.

I was drawn to CrossFit because of the variety in the workouts. I have learned Olympic lifts as well as how to handle life situations more confidently.

As a coach I am motivated by the member that question/doubt themselves as they enter the gym. When I work with this member I am driven to create a successful experience for the member. As the member gets a taste of success their passion for CrossFit is fueled, along with my passion to continue to find methods that will continue to create successful moments.

As a CrossFit athlete I continue to find success in my journey. One major accomplish was in 2013. I finished 35th world wide in the open, masters 45-49 division. I continue to find weaknesses which fuels my fire to strengthen myself as an individual. My favorite WOD is “Cindy”, body weighted movements are my favorite. My hobbies outside the gym consists of volunteer work with those in need and at my church. I also find myself volunteering at my children’s’ school and sports teams.

Why do you crossfit?

I crossfit because it’s how I stay in shape. Crossfit took the place of my usual gym routine, which consisted of step-aerobic classes and other group classes. I’ve always enjoyed working out in a group setting because I find that I push myself more when people around me are pushing themselves. The difference between Crossfit and other group classes is that our workouts change every day, so I never get bored, and I’m always challenging myself to meet a new goal.

Favorite things about working for QCCF?

I love working for QCCF! I get to talk to a lot of people about why Crossfit works and how it can change a person’s life. I like thinking that maybe I had something to do with someone’s decision to start Crossfit.

Favorite movement?

My favorite movement is the power clean. I may not be a “strong” girl, but I can move well.

Proudest moment?

My proudest moment was probably the day I got my first pull-up. I can still remember it clearly. A friend and I promised to just attempt one pull-up a day each day until we were able to do it. Then, one day, it happened. I was so surprised and excited that I did it again just to show my coach!

Favorite cheat meal?

My favorite cheat meal would have to be Van’s pizza and a Blue Moon 🙂

My favorite CF movement is the Snatch. I have a new found passion for Olympic Lifting and it is a very complex movement that takes time, patients and perseverance to master. I am still working on the Mastery of it but I enjoy practicing!

My favorite hobby outside of CrossFit is playing with my dog (aka Gus, Gus Bus, Guster Buster, Buddy Boy, my QCCF assistant, also pictured). He’s the best, silliest dog and puts a smile on my face everyday.

My favorite cheat meal is Whitey’s Ice Cream. Actually, it might be the universal QCCF favorite cheat meal!

Fav cheat meal?

What motivates you as a coach?
You do. The other staff members do. This whole community does. Coaching comes easy and is so fun and inspiring when the people around you are willing to listen and get better, and everyone is together working towards the same goal- Fitness as a life-style and not as a show. Though the show part is a nice perk 😉

Why do you do CF?

I do CrossFit because it’s both physically and mentally challenging. Whether its completing a heavy lift or controlling your mind so you don’t quit you learn more about what you truly can do. Each day it provides me the opportunity to master skills that can easily be related to my daily activities.

Favorite CF movement?

In general, my favorite thing about CF is competing in a team competition with your friends and learning about new activities you a can pursue (Olympic weightlifting, Power lifting, gymnastics, etc.). Going to the box daily allows you to create great friendships and participate in activities you may not of considered before.

Favorite hobby out side of CF?

After starting CF I became more adventurous so my hobbies outside of CrossFit are kind of unlimited. I will to try most things once. Specifically, I love practicing Ashtanga Yoga, trail running, and riding my Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

What motivates you as a coach?

Sharing my knowledge and experience to others and watching them complete a movement that they struggled with or could not do is what motivates me as a coach. The smile and excitement they have when they accomplish something they never thought they could do is very rewarding. It is also motivating to see how much their lives improve outside of the gym because of the proper techniques we get to teach them.
